Defining a breeder

When talking about breeders as a whole, there are so many definitions of what makes a good breeder-are they reputable or responsible, hobby or professionals, back yard breeders or a puppy mill.

Reputation alone as a word is defined as the opinion or view of one about something, or the perceived character of a person. So in not so many words, the person's opinion about oneself?? While responsible is about trust or holding accountability. Which would you prefer-a person who is accountable or one who has an opinion that what they do is the only right way?

Facts: responsible breeders do health testing of their dogs for a variety of known genetic problems and health issues. They take the information from those tests along with the structural and temperamental qualities of each dog and form a judgment as to the best possible breeding to produce a dog to meet the breed standards as set forward by the breed's parent club. At no point does this responsible breeder boast about one attribute being the one and only reason for breeding. For example, a dog might "pass" all of it's health tests but have a very bad temperament or not be structurally correct.

Responsible breeders are there for the life of the dogs they produce. They are available to the owners to answer any questions and they willing take back a dog they bred, at any point during the life of their dog. They will ask more questions of the perspective owner then they are asked of themselves.
Above all they are committed to producing well rounded, healthy animal that is a wonderful representative of the breed.
